James Harden does the Carlton with Carlton

Anybody that has watched Fresh Prince of Bel Air knows two things. First, they know every single word to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song from memory. Second, they know do “The Carlton,” the famous dance that Carlton Banks (played by Alfonso Ribeiro) would do. We’ve all attempted it; some of us are successful, others, not so much.

Now what if you had a chance to learn how to do the Carlton from the man himself? Well James Harden got to do just that. And the Houston Rockets posted it on Instagram for our enjoyment/jealousy.

The video begins with Harden in the middle of his lesson — “It’s kinda cool when you break it down, but when ya do it all fast” — and we see very soon that Carlton hasn’t lost a single step. Considering how many times he has done the dance, it’s probably as simple to him as breathing. Mr. Ribeiro then offers Harden a chance to do the famous finger snapping dance that surely impresses all the ladies. Harden goes through two snaps, and has the sudden realization it’s a lot harder than it looks. He passes on the opportunity to finish the dance and the video ends.

All I can say is James Harden, I am disappointed in you. That is Carlton Banks standing in your presence. He is volunteering to show you how to do The Carlton! Yes, perfecting it is difficult, but it’s well worth it when you do it at a crowded party and everybody is staring. Not that I would know…
