In this summer’s draft, the Boston Celtics had two picks in the first round: the sixth overall, which they used on Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart, and the 17th, which they used Kentucky’s James Young.

As the team’s only draftees for the 2014-2015 season, it’s natural for the two to stick together. After all, they’re both tiny fish in the NBA’s humungous pond, and plenty of learning experiences are likely to ensue over the next few seasons. Having someone there who is in the same situation as them, even if they are dealing with a different set of expectations, is bound to make them closer. And during media day that seemed to be the case, because the two were wearing the same t-shirt around the Celtics’ facility.

That shirt: a caricature of the two on draft night with the caption “We are Young and Smart.”
