Dwight Howard has often been compared to Shaquille O’Neal as they both started their careers in Orlando before playing in Los Angeles. Unlike Shaq, Howard has never truly gotten into acting. He has had bit parts in several movies like “Just Wright” but never became a leading man in Hollywood. Until now.

While it is not a full length feature film, Howard is starring in a documentary about his life, specifically the summer of 2013, when he left the Lakers to join the Houston Rockets. Check out the trailer for “EPIX Presents Dwight Howard In The Moment” which debuts on November 12, at 8pm on EPIX:

press release

from last year has more details on the documentary:

"New York, NY, October 3, 2013 – EPIX is thrilled to offer fans across the nation a close-up look at the life and accomplishments of 7-time NBA All-Star and 3-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Dwight Howard, in the EPIX Original Documentary, EPIX Presents Dwight Howard: In the Moment. Premiering spring 2014, the documentary follows Howard during another transitional year in his NBA career and private life. Recruited to the Houston Rockets as they make a run for the 2014 NBA championship, Howard previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic after vaulting to the pros as the National High School Player of the Year from Atlanta, Georgia. The film traces his path to stardom and answers the question, ‘who is the real Dwight Howard?’“Dwight Howard is one of the biggest names and greatest talents in basketball,” said Mark Greenberg, EPIX CEO and President. “We are delighted to offer his fans a glimpse into his life beyond what is shown on the court.”Dwight Howard commented, “The 2013/14 season is a pivotal year in my professional career.  I am excited about being a Houston Rocket and grateful for the opportunity to be seen in an in-depth manner.  I am happy to be working with the EPIX team, including award-winning documentarian, Ross Greenburg.”Dwight signed with the Houston Rockets this off-season.    The In the Moment production team was there during the tumultuous times and decision making that took Dwight from the Lakers to the Houston Rockets after the 2013 season and behind the scenes with Dwight in LA, Houston and as he visited his Atlanta home.  Dwight Howard: In the Moment will retrace his youth and give viewers a glimpse into the difficult decisions he has made during his glory days in Orlando, his uneasy exit, his back surgery, tumultuous year in Los Angeles and his new lease on life in Houston."

EPIX previously made a similar documentary about New York Knicks forward, Amar’e Stoudemire, which chronicled his rehab from injury. With Howard openly admitting lingering effects from his back injury affected his play with the Lakers and his pledge this summer to become a better leader with the Rockets this season, this documentary should be quite interesting to watch.
