Metta World Peace Has Important Things To Say
Yes, I am definitely the right person to talk about this. An important tweet was made yesterday, and now that we’ve had some time to digest it, let’s get to work:
There are so many layers, so many things to unpack. Let’s start from the top.
Item 1 – “realtalkwithmwp.”
Now I’ve done a brief bit of research, and there doesn’t seem to be a false-talk or even a sugarcoated-white-lie-talk account for Metta World Peace. Metta only has this account, and the talk is real. The title demands a certain state of discourse, and it’s important for one to establish standards, so yeah. Hard truth at all times.
Item 2 – ….But What Is (And Stay With Me Here) Reality…?
If Metta World Peace were to approach me with a statement like “Hey, come here. No, it can’t wait. We gotta have some real talk,” I think I would be uncomfortable. There’s a measure of intimidation in Metta’s chosen handle, and that can be off-putting to some. Keeping that in mind, he chose to dispel that quite quickly, and for that I’m grateful. I like to imagine this is as real as Metta gets, or anything gets if I’m honest.
Item 3 – Priorities
Many of Metta’s instagrams, which can be found at his instagram at instagram.com, are quite crisp. One can tell that the image uploaded is meant to be the focus, even if they are quite often pictures of noodles and/or avocado. Here, however, it’s worth noting that the picture is quite blurry, almost rushed, suggesting an overwhelming desire to share this message with the world, and share it as soon as possible. This moment was important to him, and that’s why it’s so important to us. I say “us,” because I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you’re on my side here. We good? Good.
Item 4 – Smiles for Miles
Look how happy he is. Just look. It’s heartwarming. That’s not a forced smile; that’s a relaxed look of genuine contentment. At the time he took that picture, pretty much everything was right in his world, and it was nice of him to think to share that bliss with us.
Item 5 – Animal Expert
We are aware of how in tune with pandas Metta World Peace has become, but he apparently has achieved a level of familiarity with elephants in that not only can he compare his own evacuations with their calls, he can also assert their emotional state. My dog used to bark all the time, and I still don’t know if he was angry at me. This is impressive. I trust we will soon see Metta on the court wearing a long trunk of some description. It will be game-changer.
There are probably more wrinkles to this that I’m not picking up, but I think this is enough to get the conversation started. We’ll revisit this picture this time next month, and we’ll discuss which aspects of it most affected us, what decisions they’ve led to, and how we plan to incorporate the lessons learned into our daily lives in a permanent, explicit manner. We’re friendly here, but we also demand personal growth, so get to work.
I miss you, Metta. Please, come back.
