Rudy Gay goin up….on a Tuesday

Rudy Gay has had career renaissance with the Sacramento Kings. He went from high volume, inefficient, midrange gunner to a guy that bullied his way to the rim and efficiently hit his mid range jumpshots. He’s teamed up with Demarcus Cousins in an attempt to bring the Kings to the playoffs.

Tonight, Gay has been struggling, he has no Cousins by his side and his coach recently got fired. What he does have is highlight of the night with this monster And-1 dunk.

WOO. That was one of the best dunks all year. First, there’s the power behind the dunk. Gay rises from just beyond the restricted area, goes straight through the arm of a defender, and slams home the dunk with such ferocity. To make it even more impressive he finished the dunk despite getting fouled, and made the free throw afterwards. Arco Arena erupted after Gay’s dunk, getting everybody on their feet. Ignore that the team is down going into the half, after a dunk like that they got some energy to bring into the locker room with them. To get the crowd pumped back up after halftime the scoreboard operator should replay the dunk 20 times before the start of the third quarter, it deserves nothing less but to be replayed constantly.

While Gay is struggling tonight, it’s been fun to see his career turn around in Sacramento. After his exits in Memphis and Toronto, many had listed Gay as an inefficient player you can’t afford to have on your team due to his contract. Now, he’s a player that’s very important to the Kings future success. In a league where not very many players get a second chance to change their image, it’s cool to see that one player did.
