For basically his entire career, Rajon Rondo has made a point of passing up points in favor of racking up assists. At times that has meant Rondo has passed up easy baskets or passes in favor of more difficult ones, which has turned a fair share of people against him. Of course, that also has allowed Rondo to get pretty good at throwing tough passes to the point where he can make some look way easier than they actually are. Just like he did with this alley-oop to Rudy Gay on Thursday night’s preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs.

While the oop opportinity in itself was not hard, after all it was just Rondo and Gay with Jimmer Fredette near them, the way Rondo pulls it off wasn’t. Throwing one-handed oops is hard enough considering most people’s hands are just barely or not big enough to control a ball with the precision that lobs need, but doing so off the dribble is incredible. But Rondo has done that type of thing plenty of times before and it shows as the ball meets Gay right at the rim for an easy flush.

The assist was Rondo’s eighth of the night and considering how much George Karl will want to run this season and with how well Gay and Ben McLemore can jump and dunk, the first of many nice alley-oops he throws this season.
