John Wall posts a berserk line against the Warriors
By: Ryne Prinz (@ryneprinz)

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are so dominant. They’re so dominant that it’s sometimes easy for their opponents’ great games to be lost in the madness, and that’s okay. In the game between the Warriors and Washington Wizards on Wednesday night, that kinda’ happened. The defending champs ultimately won, and Curry scored 51 points and hit 11 three-pointers, because he’s Steph Curry. It was duel between the point guards, as John Wall scored an efficient 41 points and dished out 10 assists.

Wall was electric getting to the basket, scoring above the basket and finishing difficult layups. He also hit all three of his shots from beyond the arc, which has been a weak point in his game since he’s entered the league. And per usual, Wall was a brilliant passer. One of the Wizard’s most efficient plays is the pick-and-roll between Wall and center Marcin Gortat. Gortat scores 1.21 points per possession as the roll man, and many of those plays involve Wall finding him. Washington effectively used this play multiple times against the Warriors.

I could talk about Steph Curry all day, but Wall has been on quite the roll lately. Although he started off slowly — rumor has it he was injured — and the Wizards have disappointed, Wall averaged 19.5/9.9/4.5 with 1.9 steals in January and was just voted as an All-Star reserve. John Wall is one of my favorite players to watch in the league, especially when he’s putting up the numbers like he has as of late.

It didn’t count on the scoreboard but it did in our hearts.

The NBA Dunk Contest is going to be realllllyyyy fun.
by Matt Cianfrone (@Matt_Cianfrone)

Late on Thursday night important NBA news became official. No there was not an important trade or free agent signing or even injury that involved a star player punching another individual. Instead it was about the NBA Dunk Contest which had its field officially set with Denver Nuggets forward Will Barton, Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond and Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon joining defending champion Zach LaVine in what projects to be a great field.

The real fun part is the addition of Gordon, who out of any player in the league seems to stand the best chance of dethroning LaVine. Gordon’s incredible combination of length, hops and power should stand up very well in the contest despite the fact that there will not be a miss for him to put back or people for him to dunk on.

Drummond and Barton meanwhile should provide some fun moments before they are inevitably eliminated by the two best dunkers in the league which is a good thing. The contest, which was lacking for a bit, seems like it will be a ton of fun throughout this season and a great way to highlight the league on a night that is all their own.

Now, February 13 just needs to get here.
