Tobias Harris was traded yesterday from the Orlando Magic to the Detroit Pistons yesterday, and for many players this would be an excuse to cancel any plans they had for the day. After all, there’s more that goes into being traded than just a flight to a new city to play for that team. However, Harris had an event scheduled to speak to local Orlando youth, and he wasn’t going to skip that just because he was traded to a new team.

Harris is well known as someone that gets involved in his community, and he makes a serious effort to be a part of that. With the Magic he was a two time winner of their community service award, and is well known around the league for his efforts in that area. Some players use community service as a PR move, but Harris truly cares about what he’s doing.

Moments like this remind us that sometimes it’s bigger than basketball, and Tobias Harris gets that.
