Bismack Biyombo talks about his childhood, makes it easier to root for him
It is easy to say that during the 2016 NBA Playoffs, no player in the league has made himself more money than Bismack Biyombo. Biyombo, who is on a one year deal with the Toronto Raptors, has taken advantage of an injury to starting center Jonas Valanciunas to show off his rebounding and shot blocking abilities to the national audience and capture their hearts thanks to his charisma and finger wagging.
As this is happening it has led people to forget that it wasn’t long ago that Biyombo was considered a bust after his time with the Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats, where he never developed beyond a rebounding rim protector thanks to bad hands, frustrating the Charlotte management who drafted him in the lottery. For many people, that type of reputation would crush them but not Bismack Biyombo.
It hasn’t crushed Biyombo because of what he came from, a story that not many people know. On the great Open Gym series the Raptors are doing on their Youtube channel, Biyombo reminded fans what exactly his life growing up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was like, and it wasn’t good at all.
As if anyone needed another reason to love Biz. Biyombo has clearly made his family proud and after this summer, very well off. For a player who came from such tough circumstances it is great to see, especially because of how much Biyombo really seems to appreciate it.
So join the Bismax Biyombo bandwagon because this man deserves it.
