Technically NBA legend Jerry West isn’t a member of the Golden State Warriors coaching staff. That fact didn’t stop him from joining young wing player Harrison Barnes during an offseason workout though, and thanks to a really cool documentary channel on Youtbue we got a look inside that workout.

Watching West work at such an advanced age is incredible. You can tell during moments that his body just doesn’t allow him to do the things that it used too, like shoot the jumpers or layups he is teaching Barnes about, but that doesn’t stop his mind. West clearly understands the game of basketball well and is willing to put in a ton of work despite being a “consultant” to make sure the Warriors get better this offseason. Hearing things like West talking about how Barnes wasn’t always balanced on shots this season is a great glimpse into a great basketball mind who surely has a ton going on and still focused on things like that.

To his credit, Barnes seems to understand how cool it is to be taught by a legend and he locks in intently any time West speaks. From what we see Barnes had a great, grueling workout as well which is something that fans don’t always get to see much of. In just a six-minute glimpse viewers get a look into how hard professional athletes go in each daily workout session to keep getting better and hopefully we get to see more of these sessions soon.

And hopefully more involve West because any time he talks it is well worth it for NBA fans and players to listen. He is clearly a goldmine of basketball knowledge and any behind the scenes work we see from him where he dispenses it is well worth our time.

Update: As it turns out the workout was from last summer and the video is just being released now. Either way it is still a really good look into the workout and a cool thing to see. Thanks to reader Swopa for pointing it out.
